Yesterday marked the passing of George Whitman, owner of the Paris bookstore Shakespeare and Company. The world has lost a treasure. I fear this passing is indicative of the passing of a generation, a lifestyle of print media. May we continue with our electronic books with wild abandon but remember those free markets that came before us. NYTimes
