Today begins the week of interviews for the children’s librarian position. As I have stated,
but formality dictates that myself and Betty spend at least an hour talking with several people so that we can tell the board we made an informed choice.
The kicker comes in that we do not actually hire staffed positions. Betty and I do all the leg work to promote and interview prospective librarians and the board of directors take the one we recommend and do whatever the hell they like. Is it fair? In some ways I guess it does add a check and balance to the process, but the board has been so erratic lately I am worried.
That worry aside, today we sat down with Darling McCraw. After looking over his resume, I found my eyebrows being raised more than once at the kids qualifications. I hate that he is still in library school, or I would put him up for the reference librarian position right now. However, I can hire him as a regular worker. Hint: That’s what’s going to happen. I don’t need board approval for my paraprofessionals so they can suck it. And hopefully not read this.
Anyway, there’s some notes Betty and I took during Darling McCraw’s interview:
Arrived on time, well dressed in button up shirt and slacks. Must ask where he got the calculator watch
Well spoken, I can hear what he says
Look up definition of “liturgy” - not sure he used it right
Computer skills. May make Dave jealous.
