Tuesday started with Skinner Punk getting upset that the cake he had left with us was gone. I suspect either the janitorial staff threw it away or took it home. Either way, he should not have been surprised it went missing. I gave him some money, claiming the library thanked him for his services to story time. He seemed okay with that.
Wednesday, the Gunderson family attempted to have a birthday party. In the library. Without telling us. After Betty then I explained to them that they could not have food or an event in the library without our permission, Mr. Gunderson became upset. One violent outburst, three crying children, and a policeman later, the Gundersons were escorted from the building.
The happy note came on Thursday. The grant money for the new computers will be released July 1st and we are allowed to spend away. Dave descended upon me with a mountain of catalogs. I told him I trusted his decisions, so he could pick out what he thought we could get for the allotted amount of money and I would go over that with him. I have never seen Dave giddy. I swear I thought I heard heels click together as he walked away.
That leaves us to today. As I said before, I was supposed to be meeting Natalie for drinks tonight, but right now I am sitting in a hospital. I left the library early today to prepare for my meeting with Natalie and left Betty in charge. An hour ago I got a call from Dave. Betty was working the circulation desk when she started to feel odd. She kept dropping the scanner and she was having trouble speaking. She reached a phone and called an ambulance just as she collapsed. I told Dave to hang back and close the building and am sitting here in this sterile environment, waiting for news on my friend.
Things fall apart.
