Ultimate Comics The Ultimates #1
Esad Ribic, Dean White
So there’s this guy with this helmet and a bunch of other dudes in white spandex and nothing and a dome shows up.
Then there’s a building and Samuel L. Jackson is ordering people around. There seems to be a bunch of flashbacks underneath the word balloons.
Cut to this guy at a party going out to his car, putting on a helmet and oh, he’s Tony Stark. So Tony Stark stars mind controlling a bunch of Iron Man’s remotely?
Jump over to Captain Britain going into this party where Thor hands him a beer, Captain Britain pours it out, Thor is pissssed, and then things just start going to hell.
Everybody from the last five sentences starts beating the crap out of everything around them when this dome from the beginning shows up.
Stuff starts to go down, then Tony Stark gets all bllllleeeerrrgg and everything starts to go to hell and Samuel L. Jackson looks worried.
What’s on the cover?
Captain America is standing over Iron Man flying in with Thor looking like he’s running with a hammer he’s not supposed to be.
How’s the pictures?
The art is solid. Clean lines, fluid colors, nice shading. I think the best thing I can say is that I really like the hair on everybody. Seems to be this book’s specialty.
What really happened?
Ooookay. Another semi-reboot for the Ultimate-verse and the start of a story, so there’s bunches of people reacting to things. Honestly, the world goes like this: The Ultimates police the world, backing up any country that can’t handle things. The bulk of this book is Nick Fury playing triage as one little thing across the world after another goes hinky. The thing is, this ain’t no ordinary day and things go to hell in a handbasket real quick when each of the active superheroes out there are cut off from Fury’s watchful eye. Heh, “watchful eye.”
Did I like it?
This is one of my favorite books and I’m happy to see it continue this way. The world spanning catastrophes and slam-bam team building are what this series and the Avengers series do best and I am excited to see this go forward.
