Chapter 3: Whose Pants Are On Fire?
Summary (spoiler alert)
The two shadow people think that Ender’s sister is a problem. They plan to lie to him, and in the event of an emergency, tell Ender the truth.
So the Ender Family is sitting down to breakfast when Ma and Pa Ender are called to the door by the military. The military, played by Graff, questions Ender about beating the living shit outta the kid after he got his monitor taken away. Ender says it was so the guy would leave him alone, Graff says “cool” and then says Ender passed the test. Ender’s gonna be a Johnny Space Commander and fight the bugmen.
Ender does not want to go, but Graff tells him his life pretty much sucks and he could be somebody in Johnny Space Commander Camp, so Ender says “later” to the Ender Family and goes with Graff.
- Did Graff ever get desperate enough to tell Ender the truth?
- Why the hell is Ender called “Ender” on minute and “Andrew” the other?
- Have you given up trying to figure out what made Ender the way he is? Family? Monitor? Eh? I have.
- Would you go to Johnny Space Commander Camp to fight the bugmen if somebody clued you in to the fact that your life sucks? Discuss.
