When Dan Simon said he heard the Hauppauge Public Library was going to have medium Adrienne DeSalvo for a program, he was skeptical.
Simon said he's concerned about using taxpayer money for what he believes is someone scamming the district. "I'm not comfortable with the library holding a religious event," Simon said. "And primarily I feel it's a scam. She's pretending to contact people's dead relatives." - Newsday
Some may call it fun. Some may call it a harmless entertainment piece, a program for the season to delight and enjoy. But I'm with Dan the Man. Fuck this lady and her bullshit.
What is my evidence? Mostly the whole 'speaking to the dead' thing. As Harry Houdini once said, "That shit ain't real. She's a horrible liar that lives off the belief and grief of others, far beyond just a simple religious tithe. She actively seeks out and tricks people into telling their secrets, bearing their old shames and memories, and leeches them like a vampire. Were she to perform some trick, a manifestation of illusion and give the idea of that, fine, but nothing like that happens. The only trick is wordplay, a roundabout misdirection wherein not your mind or perceptions are played upon, but the memories of the dead. Soulless and guileless, helping nothing but her own pocketbook. I have no use for this evil type of person who offers at best delusions of her own grandiosity and at worst a menacing shadow of a person who bathes in the pain of others."
Harry Houdini was kinda harsh back in the day, yet his quote still stands, however unaccredited it seems to be. Think I read it in a comic book he wrote. Just kinda stuck with me.
