Okay, not really babies. Children. Or adults, I guess. Whoever has candy. At the Lake Elmo Library, people of all shapes and sizes can bring in a quart-sized bag of candy and trade it for a book.
I am all for library programming, but this is just weirdo-burrito, man. What kid, and this is from a reader who would fake vomit rather than play sports, what kid in their right mind would go for this? "Hey, Jimmie? Remember how we hiked around all night and finally found the house with the full sized Snickers bars? Wanna give all that up for a book?" The answer you would get would be a big ole' "fuck no." But if it works, it works, I guess. Can't win candy if you do not try.
The candy they bring in will be donated to the Armed Forces Service Center at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. For more information, check out the library's website.
