Hoopla, an Amazon Prime-like digital streaming service for movies and television shows that deals with public libraries, has signed deals with NBCUniversal, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc., National Geographic and BBC America. That means you will be able to get your Parks and Rec, Doctor Who and whatever National Geographic and MGM still do for free from your library rather than having to pay a monthly fee.
One has to wonder if Mr. Netflix is dealing with Mr. Hollywood right now in a smoke filled back room.
"What are we gonna do about these libraries, Hollywood?" Mr. Netflix says.
"Kid, don't worry. The library, she's doomed. This Hoopla? All a bunch of hoopla? Hehe. You worry too much."
"You don't worry enough, old man Hollywood. What if they get in with your theatres, huh? What if the library gets in the theater game?"
Then Mr. Hollywood crushes an orange in his fist and shoots a cat in the head, "We check them out."
Fade to Black.
