Buffy the Vampire Slayer #16-19, Welcome to the Team
Our story starts with Buffy, Copguy and boy-slayer Billy fighting a nest of zompires, one of which is really strong. They go back to capture it, but Buffy gets teleported away and Copguy gets attacked. Also, Dawn is sick and Xander is just mad for some reason.
Buffy is teleported to Teh Council, where they tell her the Siphon guy from a few stories ago is being a jerk and taking powers. They go after him and find out he is trying to steal Illyria's power. They set a trap, but he takes her powers anyway. Also, Dawn goes into a coma.
To wrap everything up, Buffy's roomate is a slayer, Dawn is dying because of what Buffy did to stop magic in the world, Xander is pissed, Illyria is powerless and not blue, and Punky Slayer (with Siphon) is turning other slayers into zompires, making the super strong zompires.
Holy crap. This story is... okay. It brings back elements of not only the past Season but the series as a whole. Billy is shoehorned in a bit, but hey, no trouble there cause we randomly have Xander going all PTSD on top of Dawn while she's sick. Where's the trouble?
I like how they brought in Dawn's mystical nature in the equation, but Xander's abusive behavior and outbursts just seem too out of character. I resisted them as a couple at first, but after a while it started to make sense. Then to have him act this way... It leaves a bad taste in my mouth at how out of character and extreme it is.
And I will just say it: I have not been keeping up with Illyria. I don't know how she got her power back nor do I care. I just hope that something is done with bringing her in that is more than they ever did on the show. I never liked the idea of her or her purpose on the show and thought they tossed away a great character for a mediocre one when they took away Fred. That being said, I find it interesting her power is what made her blue, not just being her.
The deeper I read into this series, the more I expect less. I know Willow's gonna come back with that Slayer scythe and take back the energy or whatever. I know Dawn is gonna be okay be cause whatever. I know evil will not triumph because what kind of story would that be. But from what I have seen from Season 9, evil got pretty far because good is pretty dumb.
