Buffy the Vampire Slayer #20: The Watcher
Xander runs off feeling useless, Willow shows up with the scythe plus magic and Dawn's still dying of the No Magic disease. Then everything gets interesting when Siphon and Punky Slayer villian talk Xander into stealing that big ass "Vampyr" book Buffy's been carting around since Giles died so they can turn back time and fix their lives cause that always works right. Got all that? Okay.
Okay, we have had, like, two instances of Xander going all rage monster and now we are supposed to think he is gonna side with evil? After all he has been through? Sure, he lied way back in Season 2 so Angel would get killed. That was a bunch of dead friends ago. If he does not make a face/heel/face double cross turn on these bad guys, my name is not Senor Buttermaker in certain parts of the world.
Let us also examine the villain's plot for saving everybody, m'kay? Go back in time and stop Twilight so that Siphon can live forever with his vampire girlfriend, Punky can be a better slayer (whatever that means), and Dawn can exist in a world with magic. That is a bunch of dumb horse shit. Yes, let's muck about with the space time continuum pulling a major figure in universe wide matters out of the way and expect everything to end up okay. Villain 101, guys. That does not work. Just a glance at the Evil Overlord's List will tell you that, including the following that Siphon seems to have forgotten:
22. No matter how tempted I am with the prospect of unlimited power, I will not consume any energy field bigger than my head.
I think that sums up everything about this comic right there.
As for the art, it looks really good, but the character models are off from the usual look, almost to the point where it felt like another actress was playing the same part.
Bonus! Buffy FCBD 2012
Fun little short story in this one that ties in nicely with a reference made in a recent issue: Buffy's space vacation.
Seems while up in space on the cockroach ship with Spike, one of the bugs got zompired and went Alien, teeth tongue and all. What follows is a fun little story, mostly dialog, where the roaches get a few laughs and everyone had some fun. This is cheesy and strange take on the Alien movies and works well for what it is.
