Today has been a rumbling day, a cascade of rolling noises has been surrounding me. Here’s the causes and the effects.
Nothing wild to report, just some deep sounds from high above. Small showers fell for a second and I suspect more will follow as the earth cools at night, but for most of the day we remained dry.
The animals seem to regard the weather a bit different, but then again they have been burned in the past. Deep rumblings in the sky can and often do lead to torrential storms with lasting effects. Sometimes, as poor Xena the wonder dog has had personal (caninal?) experience with, these storms lead to hurricanes and tornadoes. The cats are too young to understand the horrors of wind gone vortex, yet they run anyway because deep within us all lies the instinct that Mother Nature is a righteous bitch who kills the weak and shelterless.
I finished the run of Amazing Spider-man through issue #700 and have mixed feelings. Spoiler alert: Peter Parker dies and Doctor Octopus lives on in his body. Half of me screams “wtf” and wonders if Marvel simply has it in for Mr. Parker (as they have already killed him in the Ultimate universe) while the other half knows they will bring him back in some way, shape, or form because "comic books." Still, I enjoyed the soap opera of it all and hope they do not bring back Parker simply because the death was handled very well, much better than the shit show that was Brand New Day. We shall see.
I also finished Zombie Spaceship Wasteland by Patton Oswalt. I love Mr. Oswalt as a comedian and thought this book was very funny, but it seems like he was hiding from something or just padding the book out with a ton of fiction writing. This book feels like it was trying to be two things, a memoir and a bunch of shit nuts essays, and at times the flow is hard to take. I found myself skipping whole sections as I was pounded with idea after idea of nonsensical and horizontal rambles. However, I will go back and read these sections again on their own, as they are very funny pieces of writing. Part of me wishes the points of insanity were amended as footnotes, examples that could be skipped over or digested later (like the other footnotes) without breaking the nonfiction parts. Again, a very funny book that should be checked out.
I set up a new writing space this morning, a quiet place with a desk and a lamp and my laptop and that’s about it. I even got an uncomfy chair so I could not settle and contemplate too long.
I took a lot of time out today to work on an upcoming episode of the podcast. I have been putting them out Sunday/Wednesday, but feel they are suffering in quality, mostly because I pull them straight out of my ass and onto the recorder. I am trying something new this week and am only going to put out one on Wednesday evening, taking a little more time to craft something rather than crap it out. I hope anyone who actually listens to it will be patient with me. Thanks.
That’s all for today. I hope all the fathers out there had a happy Father’s Day. I emailed mine and I hope he’s doing well surrounded by bears and trees and whatnot as he camps. I’m sure he is, we are a pretty easygoing lot.
I’m gonna go now and watch Valkyrie with Tom Cruise. Wish me luck and tell me how your Father’s Day went in the comments.
