Describe in your own words the situation:
So I’m on the circulation desk looking at cures for Mr. Violence’s rash and this woman comes to the desk wearing an ugly skirt and hands me a book that is not the library’s, so I hand it back. She tells me that it belongs to the library, but I can see that it does not have a call number or stamp or anything. She says she lost the book she borrowed from the library, so she’s giving us another copy. I tell her it does NOT work like that. She says that she has done it before and to check her account. I take her card and check her account and there’s a fine. I tell her about the fine and she complains, so I tell her I can get a librarian because at this point I am getting upset.
I get Ellen because Evan is nowhere to be found as usual, and Reshonda looked busy. Ellen looks at the patron’s record and tells her about the fine and agrees with me that there is no way can we take a substitute book because we have to buy the book. The patron then gets all mad and angry and I walk away but I can hear her yelling at Ellen. People down here in the south are all nice and stuff until they don’t get what they want. I just tell the truth and if they can’t deal, well, at least I’m not being disingenuous.
Anyway, then the lady throws the book, so I go to the back and get my phone, and I call the police. Then Evan decides to show up and will not listen to me. He even sides with the patron, NOT EVEN listening to Ellen. He takes the book and lets that woman go. Then good old boy Sgt. Steve shows up and him and Evan go off to have a boys club meeting in the back room and me and Ellen have to keep watching the library because we’re the only ones that work around here. I didn't even hear the phone ring!
Then Evan comes back and tries to tell me how to deal with patrons! I know people and he can’t just And he asks me to not try to cure my babies when there’s nothing to do and almost runs me over with a book cart! So I left for the day because I was upset after being talked down to like that and I’m getting upset all over again.
I want it on the record that making me relive this is wrong and hurtful to my feelings.
