Describe in your own words the situation:
At noon on Aug. 16th, I finished installing the last server in the library tunnels under the children’s trailer when I leave to have lunch. I leave the building and on my way out see my old teacher, Mrs. Melinda McCarthy standing at the circulation desk wearing that same ugly brown skirt. I tell her hello and she asks who is the librarian on duty.
I tell her Evan is in charge and the Caleb is in the Tent City across the street. Mrs. McCarthy asks about Debbie and I tell her Ellen and Debbie are just staff like me. That seems like what she does not want to hear, so I skedattle.
On my way out, though, I feel bad so I go in the backroom and find Evan and Reshonda working on something. I tell Evan he might want to go up on the circ desk because it might get ugly. They didn’t call her Murder McCarthy for nothing.
So then I leave and I get out to my car, but I forgot my strawberries that I was gonna eat for lunch, so I go back in. Only now there’s a squad car out front and I’m suddenly worried cause... I mean what if something happened? They would go over the whole library and those strawberries weren’t exactly kosher.
Anyway, Mrs. McCarthy comes walking out all happy, so I guess everything’s fine. I go inside and see Evan and Sgt. Steve going in the backroom.
I go down real quick and get my strawberries and come back up and the phone’s ringing, but I’m at lunch.
Then I’m walking out and Debbie’s walking out, too. I guess she was upset, but she’s always upset. Hope her parakeets are doing okay.
