New Jersey regulators and Governor Chris Christie (that should make you pause right there) are making rules that would ban automaker Tesla Motors from setting up shops in the state. When I first read that I was like, well yeah, cause a state that makes you pay someone to pump your own gas is never gonna figure out a wage for somebody to plug your car in. They fear electricity in the Garden State, right? This is just what I've learned about New Jersey from watching Sopranos and eating at a Sbarro, so I don't know if I'm right or not.
I also love the hypocrisy that comes with this. The nation lives and breathes capitalism and innovation and change but when those things actually start to happen and old models are ousted, we freak out. Rather than lean into online sales, the entertainment industry lawyered up with RIAA and started suing people. Rather than make swift deals with ebooks and ereaders, publishers gave that away to Amazon and bookstores closed. Now the auto industry, rather than change their broken way to make and buy cars, is using the government to stop innovation and change. And do not think I'm forgetting the oil industry, of course I can't because we fought dozens of wars in the last 50 years to make sure that shit was stable and we can't let that go now.
This got too real. Here's a weird video a friend sent me because she secretly hates me.
