2000 - Pennsylvannia - Challenged but retained at Pennridge high school for language

2002 - Mississippi - Banned for profanity from George County schools

2006 - Illinois - Retained on the Northwest Suburban High School District 214 reading list in Arlintgon Heights with eight other titles based on excerpts from the internet. The board member instigating the challenges was elected amid promises of bringing Christian beliefs to decision making.

1998 - California

San Jose - Challenged but retained at the San Jose Unified School District as optional reading after complaints the book is "pornographic and offensive in its stereotyping of Latinos." Students must have parental permission to check out of school library.

Santa Rosa - Removed from the high school reading list

Fremont - Removed pending review

2003 - California - Challenged but retained in three Beyer High School classrooms in Modesto after complaints it is pornographic. District administrators removed the book in November 2003 and this descision reversed those actions.

2004 - California - Santa Barbara schools pulled the book after a parent complained about graphic violent and sex passages.

2017

Alberta, Canada - St. Vincent Elementary School in Edmonton banned all mention of the series on campus

Colorado - At Mesa County School District, the curriculum director ordered librarians to stop circulating the book. Librarians and counselors deliberated for three hours and determined the book was not as graphic as the TV series. Parents in the school distrcit recieved notices alerting them to the possible influence of the series.

Illinois - Challenged and under review in the sophomore-level Academic English II classes at Lemont Hishg School District 210 because a parent considered it "pornographic."
