Madness On the Mind

August 23, 2024 by Banned Library in Weekly

The band played and we swayed and the thump thump thump of the music made made made me weak. A lot going on with nothing at all to do, the library will be welcoming back all the hits and misses. See you soon, lovely kind.

  • Story time on every Tuesday and Thursday at 3pm and 6pm

  • Book club the first Monday of the month

  • eBook demonstration for olds, Tuesday evening

Lost and Found

As we do every month, the library will empty its lost and found of all items next Friday. The majority of the items are jackets, phone chargers, mugs, and other common items yet there are a few that we wish would find a home:

  • 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle baseball card

  • pair of 1985 Air Jordans in box with receipt

  • tentacles

  • 628 copies of Death of Superman in bag

  • small child named Timmy or Tommy or Jill (mumbles)

  • 8TB Hard Drive labeled "Government Secrets"

  • Yellow umbrella

Amari and the Night Brothers by B. B. Alston - Damn fine "student finds they're part of a magical community" story that is only held back by the fact that it's been done before many times and does not subvert expectations enough to be ahead of the pack. Great representation in a genre that needs it, but be warned that it is about teens so the impulsive self-centeredness can drive the story.

Deadloch - Prime - I've seen one episode and will see them all. Australian comedy murder mystery full of lesbians and seals? You had me at… Well, they had me.

Obituary Writing for Children

Do you find that as you get older all the old people you like keep dying? That kind of grief does not translate well into a mourning eulogy, so pass that task on to the younger generation. In this after school module hosted jointly by the local writer's guild (Good Word Best Guild) and the city morgue, kids 8-18 will learn the simple task of ignoring a person's deep flaws and writing simple, direct statements about all the people of the community that it's either too devastating a loss to cope or an evil bastard nobody wants to remember.
