Tennessee - 2021 - This book, among others, was included by anti-critical race theory (CRT) community members Moms for Liberty around the Williamson County School from a booklist from Washington, DC nonprofit Great Minds. Moms for Liberty local leader Robin Steenman "expressed that a 'large crowd of angry white people who didn’t want Black children in a white school' was harsh and she also mentioned that the book didn’t offer 'redemption' at the end of the story." Complaints continued following a Tennessee law banning CRT in classrooms. Due to overwhelming support the books remain in the classrooms.
