Send Help to the Library
Ever wanted to know what it would look like to see a mean girl mommy-domm a tech bro on a deserted island on the big screen? Look no further, because Send Help from director Sam Raimi and starring Rachel McAdams and Dylan O'Brien will scratch that itch and more. Inside this morally complex tale for adults Raimi includes some wild violence and humor to keep the kids entertained. It's great.
Watching Send Help reminded me of when I was stuck on a desert island one time. Me and my buddy Cake Top were paragliding off the coast of Nova Scotia when we were swept out to sea. Last I saw Cake Top, he splashed down yelling for James Cameron to save him. I spotted a little island and just managed to glide safely to shore.
For three months I ate nothing but poutine and Fruit Splash Canada Dry from the Sublime Antler Resort's restaurant on the island. No one was around for miles except me, the granite curling stone I found and named "Rinky," and the full native staff and guests of the resort. Everyone spoke Canadian, so I was on my own using simple hand gestures for communication.
Three months and two days in I was walking on the beach looking for coconuts to collect rain water when I heard the sound of a boat. I was saved! Turns out Cake Top swam back to shore and had been having a hell of a time getting anyone to search for me because I "wasn't lost" and "was checked into a resort" and "refused to communicate with authorities besides gesturing wildly."
Anyway, McAdams and O'Brien have a hell of a time.
